First win in the books, focus turns to Round 1

Senior Men’s Coach, Ange Messina reflects on the practice matches over the weekend:

The senior men’s side preparation for season 2021 continued with our 2nd and final practice game against Jacana from the Essendon and district league.

The reserves started the game slowly but continued to improve as the game went on and fought the game out going down narrowly against a Aberfeldie under 23 side.

The senior side had 11 changes from our first practice game a fortnight earlier showing the depth now available within the playing group, but also providing a opportunity for another group of players to win a place in the senior side for the opening round of the season in three weeks time.

Once again we set out to tick off some key components of our game plan and implement some of lessons learnt from our first practice game and once again I’m very happy to report that we successfully ticked off all the major milestones that we set out to achieve.

There was some excellent individual performances but the highlight was a willingness to play a team style of footy with all 22 players contributing and playing their role.

Thank you to the supporters that made the trip to Jacana. The coaches and playing group really appreciate your support.

All focus now turns to Round 1 (April 17), where we welcome our premiership reunion sides from 1990 and 2000.
